The Garden garden is on Conception Street in De Tonti Square, a historic downtown Mobile neighborhood. The garden will have 10 beds, said David O'Brien, the De Tonti Square Neighborhood Association president. Some of the beds will be tended by community groups, such as 15 Place, which works with the homeless. The rest will be for neighborhood residents.

grassroots change Garden "It will be fresh organic vegetables, beautiful wildflowers and a reason for the community to get together," he said. "And it will be nice to look at."

The beds won't be very large. O'Brien said he hopes to get about 30 tomatoes out of his plot.

The garden will be as environmentally friendly as possible, O'Brien said. The city and neighborhood association bought a tank to collect precipitation that will be used to water the plants.
