Earth Day Mobile Bay Date

Every year, the date of the Earth Day celebration is:

April 22.

However, the date of the next Earth Day Mobile Bay (EDMB) was to be:

Saturday, April 18, 2020.

before it unfortunately had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In general, we usually hold Earth Day Mobile Bay on the Saturday closest to the national celebration. E.g., EDMB was held Saturday, April 25, 2009, Saturday, April 24, 2010 and Saturday, April 23, 2011. We have also held it the Saturday before Earth Day as we are this year 2020 (April 18th!) and last year 2019 (on April 20th). And Sunday has been the event day also as it was in 2012 when April 22 was a Sunday.

But since 1970, the date for the national Earth Day celebration [click]. has been April 22nd, which was a Wednesday in 2009 and a Thursday for 2010 and 2011, a Sunday in 2012 and a Monday in 2013 ... the 4/22 fixed date of Earth Day cycles through the week days, bumped occasionally by leap years.

Why does EDMB differ? Simply convenience of a weekend date, usually Saturday. Easier for resources, traffic and for most participants to attend.
